Jay
After coming down from our orgasms and washing off, Jade and I got into my bed. I was lying on my back in the middle with Jade resting on my chest like she had last night. I was in a state of euphoria after the sex we’d just had. I’d been a little rough, but Jade had seemed to love it.
It was hard to believe we’d only been together for one day and already had our first argument. I was just relieved that she’d stayed. I’d never expected her to be so understanding when she heard about my past with Asia.
Jade was being quiet, but I knew she probably had a million questions about Asia and me playing out in her mind. I figured I’d better give her the answers she needed.
“I met Asia at my club, Red,” I said, stroking her tattooed arm that was draped across my stomach.
Her body stiffened a little, but she didn’t say anything.
“My dad asked me to be the new CEO for his company. He was preparing to step down and wanted to keep the business in the family. I never wanted to work for Clarke Industries, but that was the first time my father ever showed any interest in me. Until that point, I’d thought he had no faith in me at all.”
Jade’s arm held me tighter as I spoke, but she stayed silent and let me finish.
“I was desperate to prove myself to him, and Asia got caught in the middle of it all. I fucked up. I was so busy trying to make my father love me that I didn’t see that I was losing myself in the process.”
Turning onto her stomach, Jade put her hands on my chest and rested her chin on them. She looked at me, and I put one arm behind my head, so I could see her better.
“Were you together long?”
“No. I don’t know how long—maybe a few weeks.”
Jade’s eyebrows rose.
“We fell pretty fast. I think we were both looking for something we hadn’t found yet. Marcus came into the picture, and I think, deep down, Asia always loved him. I don’t know. There was just something in the way they looked at each other.”
“So, how did things end?”
I took a deep breath, and with Jade’s head resting on me, I knew she hadn’t missed it. “I was working a lot, and I heard Asia had been spending time with Marcus when I was gone. My pride was hurt, and I assumed that Asia was betraying me. I invited an old girlfriend to a charity ball, and Asia came over. She caught us as we were getting ready to leave.”
Jade’s eyes widened. “Wow.”
“Yeah. It wasn’t until I saw Asia’s face that I realized my mistake. She was so hurt and angry. I knew I couldn’t get her back after that, but I did try. It was painful at the time, but Asia leaving helped me see the mistakes I was making.”
Jade’s hazel eyes searched my face before she said, “Thank you for being honest with me.
